Young at Heart.

Older than most of the people who ride it, this carousel was a popular attraction at the 1933 Century of Progress Fair in Chicago, Illinois. Built circa 1926 and acquired by Spencer Penrose from the Allan Herschell Company of New York to be installed in 1937, it has become a cherished feature of Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

As one of the few remaining structures of the “original” Zoo, this country-fair style carousel features 20 jumping horses in two rows, with two stationary chariots, and has been giving Zoo guests of all ages a twirl since 1937! This antique carousel is both on the State Register of Historic Properties and a permanent attraction at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Learn more about this Historic Allan Herschell Carousel (PDF)
