An Update: Saving Tigers, Together
Letter from Bob Chastain, President & CEO of Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
3/12/21: I am pleased to report that the fundraising efforts we launched on Monday for wild tiger conservation, in memory of Savelii, our 9-year-old tiger who passed away unexpectedly following a reproductive surgery, has surpassed its matching goal of $34,000.
In just five short days, the outpouring of support for Amur tigers in the wild has been inspiring. Donors from 41 states and Canada have contributed $38,160. Every gift, from the smallest at 35 cents to the largest at $2,000, will help to secure the future of tigers in the wild. And $34,000 of that will be matched through donations from Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and personal gifts by our board of directors and our staff.
I also want to clear up any possible confusion – 100% of the matching fund and all donations received will go to a tiger conservation partner that is still being researched. $0 will be retained by Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Every cent will go toward protecting and preserving the future of tigers.
The total amount, including all donations and the matching fund, currently sits at more than $72,000. This can be leveraged to do real work to save tigers. This total goes to show that when Zoos and the public rally together, we can make a lasting impact for wildlife.
If you would like to donate to this wild tiger conservation campaign or read more about Savelii’s story, you can do so here on this page. Stand by for an update on exactly what we will support, as we work with our national and international contacts to find the best possible project.
Warmly,
Bob Chastain
