Nature is calling!

Inviting all ages with various classes offered, to join in exploring the outdoors and nature! Spending time in nature can help reduce stress and trigger happiness! These small-group programs foster connections with nature, the outdoors and each other. These classes focus less on animals at the Zoo and more on the powerful impact nature has on us as humans. When we care more about wild places, we take better care of them and the creatures that live there.

Outdoor School classes may occur on Zoo grounds or off-site in other nature-based environments.

Through hands-on interactive experiences, classes may include:

Experiencing nature and the outdoors in an all new way.
Learning a new skill, craft, or experience.
Opportunities to take advantage of the Colorado wilderness.
Inspiring deep connections with nature and a passion for the outdoors.

I understand that by purchasing a CMZoo membership, advance ticket reservations are required to visit the Zoo for Individual, Family, Grandparent and Family Plus members, and my preferred ticket date or time may not always be available. I also understand that memberships are non-refundable after purchase.

If free member tickets for my chosen day/time are not available, and I choose to purchase non-member tickets, they will not be refundable/reimbursable and cannot be applied to my membership renewal.

I also understand that the Zoo cannot accommodate an earlier entry time than my ticket start time. (For example, a 10:30-11 a.m. ticket cannot be scanned in earlier than 10:30 a.m.)

Please be courteous to your fellow members by not over-reserving tickets and returning tickets you can’t use. To release your tickets, email [email protected] prior to your ticketed date.

MEMBER CODE OF CONDUCT

We believe we can create a feeling of family by treating each employee, guest, member and donor with the respect they deserve. Treating each other like we would want to be treated is just the right thing to do. There is no room at the Zoo for profanity, harassment or threatening behavior.

Our animals are family and we love and respect them not only for their beauty, but for all the joy they bring so many guests every year. We believe our animals deserve the best homes and care we can provide. Please join us in treating our animals like you would treat your own family members. Crossing barriers is dangerous, as they are in place to keep both you and our animals safe. Like your friends and family, our animals do not like to be harassed in any way.

We believe we should never take our site’s beauty for granted. Our mountain is something we hope you will enjoy and actively admire. Join us in preserving our amazing site by feeling at home while you are here and leaving our grounds “without a trace.”

Our staff strives to make the world a better place every day. We will always work hard to make your experience the best it can be as well as assist you when things might not go as planned. When having difficult discussions, mutual respect is always expected and appreciated.

Upcoming Classes

Teen Naturalist Series

Date: Saturdays, November 2, 9 & 16
Time: 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Cost: $98.75* per student for full 3-week course
Ages: Middle School & High School
Location: Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

The Teen Naturalist Training will be a series of 3 workshops throughout the month of November that will hone in on developing the necessary skills to be a future steward of the environment. This course will provide our local teen community with the resources and knowledge to better understand the wild world around us. Through hands-on and experiential opportunities we’ll study such concepts as native Ecology, Biology, and Conservation all while being in the unique setting of Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Join us as we learn how to best protect our local wildlife and wild places.

This series is only offered as a full 3 week course consisting of 9 hours of classroom and in-the-field learning. Our 3 courses will cover the following topics:

Herpetology (Saturday, November 2)
Ornithology (Saturday, November 9)
Mammalogy (Saturday, November 16)

*This event also includes daytime admission to the Zoo.

Utilitarian Basket Weaving

This is a 2.5-day course

Dates:
Friday, November 15, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Saturday, November 16, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Sunday, November 17, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Cost: $110.75 per person which includes all materials
Ages: 16 and up, all skill levels welcome
Location: Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED – Registration closes 14 days prior to the start date. Must have 6 participants to run the class.

Need something to put your pet toys in, or maybe to store hats and mittens, to put the mail in, or just to help clean up a cluttered corner? Get creative while you learn to weave a beautiful and functional basket that fits your lifestyle. The first evening of class we’ll start with a history of the basket, go over terminology, and walk through the process of weaving a basket to completion. Next, we’ll create a basket base and begin to weave height into it as you shape and form it to your own creative desires. You’ll have two full days to put your creativity to the test as you finish the course with a completed basket to take home and show off. Bring a friend and come join us for 2.5 days of basket weaving fun!

EdVenture Refunds, Cancellations or Changes

Refund Policy
A refund request must be received no less than TWO WEEKS prior to the start of the program. If approved, the Zoo will refund the amount of the fee minus 25% of the program fee. No refunds will be given after two weeks prior to the start of the program.

*If you are participating in an extended EdVenture Program (Zoo Crew, Junior Zookeeper, etc.) please send an email to the program specific supervisor to discuss refund options and policies.

We do not issue refunds for parties that do not show for their reservation. If you need to cancel or reschedule your event, please refer to the confirmation email received upon registration. For further inquiry, please email [email protected].

If the Zoo is closed due to inclement weather or other unforeseen events, we will issue you a full refund (less the non-refundable deposit) or you may reschedule the event to the next available date and apply all payments already made toward your reservation to the new reservation.

Program Cancellation
The Zoo reserves the right to cancel a program due to lack of enrollment or unforeseen circumstances in which the Zoo is closed. If the Zoo is closed due to inclement weather or other unforeseen events, we will issue you a full refund (less the non-refundable deposit) or you may reschedule the event to the next available date and apply all payments already made toward your reservation to the new reservation.
