World Giraffe Day – June 21
Join Us in Celebrating Giraffe Around the World!
Join us in celebrating World Giraffe Day on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. in African Rift Valley. There will be many giraffe-themed activities along the giraffe plaza and boardwalk, where you will have the opportunity to learn more about our herd and direct steps you can take to save wild giraffe. If you can’t be here, stay tuned for ways to have a giraffetastic day at home on our social media platforms.
Advance admission tickets are required for members and the general public.

Fun Activities
Location: African Rift Valley – boardwalk
10 a.m. – Giraffe Fan Parade, led by our giraffe mascot. Meet in Giraffe Plaza and finish at the giraffe barn. Wear your best giraffe attire and help us kick off our World Giraffe Day celebrations.
11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. – Grain and browse feeding opportunities. Guests will help animal staff feed our giraffe extra special diet items to make their day the best as we celebrate.
2 p.m. – Special giraffe training with Khalid (South-side giraffe yard.)
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. – World Giraffe Day Booths
Activities include:
– Facepaint with special giraffe options.
– Ossicone making station.
– Button making with special giraffe options.
– Learn how researchers use camera traps to identify wild species – WildWatch Kenya
– How to tell our giraffe a part. Leave your own unique spot pattern on a life size baby giraffe drawing.
– Photo booth & Giraffies.
– Where do I live? Identify where species live and their role in the landscapes in which they live.
– Artifacts; unique opportunity to see bones of a giraffe and learn from our docents.
– How do giraffe eat? Enrichment table with giraffe puppets. Guests get to use their hands via the giraffe puppet’s tongue and learn how they use their prehensile tongues to access food.
– Crayons for Conservation table.
